CASS Brain Mapping [Midco]

The CASS Brain Mapping System contains extensive databases forstereotactic procedures and is an integral part of the software optionsavailable for CASS (Computer Assisted Stereotactic Surgery).The anatomical database contains diencephalic and brain stem maps fromthree standard atlases. These maps can be individually scaled andsuperimposed over any patient's brain image for specific mappingpurposes. This mapping technique represents over 20 years of softwareengineering development and clinical use, and is particularly effectivein functional stereotactic procedures.The electrophysiological database consists of over 2500 coded responsescompiled over a 28-year period. This mapping data system represents themeticulous selection of data, and the accurate three-dimensional plottingof response points found during exploratory stimulation and recordingduring the normal course of specific stereotactic procedures. Theseresponse points can be selectively displayed according to the surgeon'sarea of interest or need and patient profile.The Talairach/Tournoux System, which includes Brodmann's corticalarchitectonics, proportions the brain and can be interrogated to displayselected structures in 2-D or 3-D representations. Once the mappingsystem has been set up for a given patient, a cursor can be moved overany image and the anatomical structures or Brodmann areas are immediatelydetermined. All of these mapping systems can be combined for displaytogether and can be used in conjunction with any other CASS module orimaging modality.Designed for simplicity, CASS features an easy-to-use interface presentedin a fully interactive display. Point-and-click operation allows foronscreen manipulation and measurement of multidimensional image data.CASS can simulate an entire operative procedure and each procedure,including the associated images, can be accurately logged and archived byCASS' special medical/legal tape archiving system.
